Dr. Karl Kim, Executive Director of NDPTC gave the opening keynote at a USAID Workshop "Research Matters: Collaborative Efforts to Understand and Reduce Disasters in Indonesia" in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Dr. Kim and Dr. Dolores Foley from the University of Hawaii's Department of Urban and Regional Planning have been working on a USAID funded program titled "Learning from Disasters: Perspectives from the US and Indonesia.
