REIS: Renewable Energy and Island Sustainability Seminar

Posted on Sept. 22, 2016

NDPTC Executive Director, Karl Kim will give a seminar on: Sustainable Resilience and/or Resilient Sustainability: Implications for Urban Planning

The presentation covers recent research on collective risk management and the role of planners, architects, and engineers in the design and building of resilient sustainable cities. Drawing on experiences in Hawaii and in the Asia-Pacific region, different models and tools for collecting data, assessing risks, and managing urban systems are described. There is increased need to look across different hazards and threats and also consider diverse capabilities, needs, and vulnerabilities in the design of sustainable strategies for resilient communities. Resilience, moreover, supports the longer term sustainability of communities. Opportunities for research, education and training are also presented. To see Flyer, click here.
