Description:

The use of social media before, during and after disaster situations has grown exponentially in recent years. As people become inundated with social media messaging, it  becomes more and more important to establish a strong relationship with your audiences through regular engagement. This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to implement strategies to better engage individuals and partner organizations. Participants will experience more in-depth training in the use of content types, engagement strategies, and measurement tools for social media. The course will enable participants to create a social media strategy and better adapt to changing needs
and strategies throughout the phases of emergency management. Group activities throughout the course will assist to reinforce the use of social media strategies in emergency management.

The goal of this course is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to use social media strategies and concepts to better engage individuals and partner organizations.

  • Measuring Outcomes
  • Design a Social Media Strategy for Emergency Managers
Target Audience:

Public and private sector organizations with the responsibility to:

  • Convey disaster-related information to the public
  • Gather information during and after a disaster

This migh include the following members or representatives of the following groups:

  • State, county and local emergency management agencies
  • Community Emergency and Community Response Teams such as neighborhood organizations or community associations and various non-first responder response teams who have communication needs before, during and after a response
  • NGOs

Prerequisites:

Successful completion of PER-304 Social Media for Natural Disaster Response and Recovery.

Recommended courses: IS-42, IS-100, IS-200, IS-700

Requirements:

1) Participants will be required to bring their own laptop or wi-fi enabled device to the training session for the hands-on exercises.
2) This course conducts a Pre-test, Post-test, and Course Evaluation online. If you do not have an online account prior to the class start date, you may not be able to participate in the class.
