DISASTER MANAGEMENT WINTER INSTITUTE


The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) and the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center (NDPTC) held their Disaster Management Winter Institute Jan 3 - 7, 2012 at the UH Manoa campus. The Winter Institute focused on the role of Social Media in reducing disaster risk in addition to providing an overview of social media tools and techniques. Participants had an opportunity to develop and test social media and communications strategies and learn from experts and practitioners involved in the uses of social media across all phases of the disaster cycle.

Social Media for Natural Disaster Response & Recovery

A performance-level course that enhances the participant's ability to build an organization's communications strategy for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. It will cover social media and its uses, current tools, methods, and models to utilize social media for crisis communication. This course is pending FEMA certification.
